Brandie Sutton, lyric soprano, known for her warm but edgy light lyrical voice, first embraced classical music during her undergraduate studies at Oakwood University where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with a concentration in voice. During her studies at Oakwood she was a soloist for, and traveled with the Oakwood University Aeolians under the direction of Julie Moore and Dr. Lloyd Mallory, Jr. She has traveled and sung in most of the United States, Bermuda, and Poland where she was able to perform in the annual Wratislavia Cantans International Music Festival in Wroclaw. She has also performed in the province of St. Maarten, Italy, many presentations of Handel's Messiah around the US, and for the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Let Freedom Ring Celebration at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Opera performances for Ms. Sutton include the roles of Pamina in Mozart's The Magic Flute, Cleopatra in Handel's Giulio Cesare, and Musetta in Puccini's La Bohéme. Occasionally she studies and coaches with Joan Patenaude-Yarnell and is currently pursuing her Master of Music (M.M.) degree at The Benjamin T. Rome School of Music at The Catholic Unversity of America in Washington, D.C. where she studies with Elizabeth Daniels.
Her competition successes include first place in the Albert Lane Scholarship competition, first place in NATS (state- AL) for her division, a finalist in the Palm Beach Opera Competition (Junior Division), first place in the Birmingham Music Club Scholarship Competiton including Best Overall Audition, the recipient of the Alma Blackmon Graduate Scholarship Award, first place in the Vocal Arts Competition for Emerging Artists sponsored by the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc., district and nationals level, and most recently, first place in NATS state (MD), and first place in NATS mid-atlantic regionals in advanced college women division. She credits her gift and all of her accomplishments to the one who is solely responsible for them-God.
